File under "things you only notice when you're looking at them closely"So I'm working on short hosen (leather booty shorts) for Project Squirrel and I was musing about my pattern (bottom left of the image) and how the long skinny piece that wraps around the butt makes it awkward for trying to fit the pattern onto a piece of material. There's just a lot of waste if you layout the contiguous pattern.. so then I happened to look the the closeup of the black leather Svante shorts.. and noticed the stitching that is on the inner thigh, below the codpiece (circled in red). It occurs to me.. that if you took the long skinny pierce of the pattern.. and pieced that onto the right-half of the pattern.. well then you could have a MUCH more efficient use of materials for these hosen.I also included a picture of hosen from the Tudor Tailor (upper left) for anyone not familiar with how this pattern is sewn together. I spotted this on Etsy and I said to myself "Self" (and I knew it was me because I recognized my voice) "Self, that would make a lovely Pel/Laurel medallion if you just painted a Pelican onto the middle stone".'Course I did kind of give me the side-eye and remind me that I haven't painted anything more complex than flat wall in the last fifteen years.. but I have faith in me. What's on your worktable?I've finished the initial pattern and mockup for the wams and short hosen for Project Squirrel. I've tweaked the patterns and made up new patterns but I have not yet made up the new mockups. I will sew those together tonight. Once that's done and I've tried it on my husband and confirmed the fit I should be ready to start finally putting the garments together.With that in mind I've started firming up my plans for "what will this thing look like?"
