For your amusement... and because someone else needs to laugh at my foolishness..So I'm working on a rubakha (long shirt) for my Kievan Rus outfit for West Kingdom 12th night. For some reason my brain has decided that I want to use this pattern to make the rubakha. I think I saw the pattern mentioned in a couple of places but I could not find any with good measurements. So finally I dug up this pattern on Pinterest (cue the ominous music and announcer voice saying "She KNEW Pinterest was NOT a trustworthy research source... but what could it hurt?"). I was THRILLED to not only find a pattern with measurements but FINALLY a pattern measurements that would make a garment that was full length. Because surely, at 58 inches of length this would be long enough to reach the ground.Still.. my spider sense.. it tingled. The gussets at 8"seemed HUGE but not.. unreasonable.The body at 120" around total seemed VERY full.. "But it's gathered at the neck and it has no gores" I justified to myself. Surely this will make sense when I gather it at the neck and I want to be able to take full strides in it.And those sleeves.. at 45 inches long.. But the sleeves have cuffs at the wrists.. and are worn with bracelets.. maybe they're just very blousy I muttered to myself. But wait.. my NORMAL sleeves are at 25 inches long.. that is just.. no, that can't be right.. what gives.. What if.. what if.. what if all of these measurements are in centimeters... and this is ACTUALLY the measurements needed for a hip length shirt cut with this pattern.Well shit.So in other, I'm sure only slightly related news, I'll be continueing to work on my rubakha this weekend. ... 2026 is coming. It is. Take a deep breath. It will be okay.So I'm planning to do a new-to-me-thing in 2026. For me that's weaving something on my new-to-me floor loom. In my head this is BIG and SCARY even though I know it's just string.. and at the very worst I attack it with scissors and never talk about it again. But let's be positive.So I'm going to make a thing. Here's my challenge.Make a new-to-you-thing. Set the goal Do the thing. Say it out loud. Post it here! Tell people you're doing the thing. Encourage other people to do the thing. Encourage other people to LOOK AT THIS COOL THING YOU MADE!! Tell other people about how making THIS COOL THING feeds your soul.Look around. What's on your work table?I'm furiously working on my outfit for West Kingdom 12th Night. I'm super thankful for the work Toka has put in the Medieval Slavic Clothing and Culture (SCA) FB group www.facebook.com/groups/3360445167583117 It gave me good foundation information for Slavic clothing without requiring me to become an expert.Last night I put the finishing touches on a "panova" (The over garment worn by married women) for my Kievan Rus outfit. I ended up buying some Gray-Blue-Red Wool from Fashions Fabric Club. The picture does not do it justice. In low light it reads as black with faint red boxes. In bright light it reads as deep green/blue with the red boxes. I cut this into 3 panels (25"x30") which will be hemmed on 3 sides and added a self casing on the 4th for the panels to be hung from a belt.I just need to finish the tunic, necklace and headband and I should be golden.#WorktableWednesday ...
