heanos

The heanos is the saffron-gold garment worn under the colorful wrap around kilt skirt.  Ladies fresco from Akrotiri. 17th c. BCE.

A heanos (or haenos) is an ancient Minoan and Mycenaean women’s garment, typically a knee-length, loose-fitting shift or underdress featuring a deep V-neckline. Often worn with a wrapped kilt-skirt and a bolero jacket, it was designed for the warm Mediterranean climate, featuring non-tailored construction and often adorned with intricate borders.
